Explain Like I’m Five

ERP puts a price on driving through certain busy road points at certain times. The charge is meant to spread traffic by encouraging some drivers to change their route, travel time or transport choice.

How It Works

When a vehicle passes an operating ERP point, its in-vehicle equipment records the charge using the configured payment method. Locations, operating periods and rates can change after LTA reviews traffic conditions.

Where You’ll Run Into It

Drivers see ERP signs and charging points on expressways and roads leading toward busy areas. Journey planners may also show routes that pass through ERP-priced roads.

Example

“If we drive there now, will we pass ERP?”

The speaker wants to know whether the route crosses an active charging point at that time.

Watch Out

ERP does not mean every road always has a charge. Check LTA’s current operating information instead of relying on an old rate or timetable.
