ORD marks the end of a person’s full-time National Service period. It is a transition date: the serviceman leaves full-time service but may still have later Operationally Ready National Service commitments.
Where You’ll Run Into It
Full-time national servicemen may count down to ORD when planning university, work or travel. Friends may also use “ORD” as a verb in casual speech, as in “he ORDs next month.”

“My ORD is before the university term starts.”
The serviceman expects to complete full-time NS before classes begin.
The Part People Get Wrong
ORD is not the end of every NS obligation. It ends the full-time phase and begins the operationally ready phase for those who remain liable.
